Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling therapy is a physical therapy that involves insertion of fine filiform needles into the skin and underlying tissues to alleviate pain and treat muscle and myofascial disorders. The procedure is performed by a licensed physical therapist and is based on the principles of traditional acupuncture. However, unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on the anatomy, physiology and modern understanding of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. The objective is to release or inactivate trigger points, which are tight knots of muscle fibers that can cause pain and impair function. Dry needling is used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, myofascial pain syndrome, and muscle tension or spasm. This therapeutic technique used to relieve pain and improve muscle function by targeting trigger points, which are tight knots in muscle fibers.

Dry Needling therapy helps to dissolve trigger points. A trigger point is a hyperirritable point in a muscle associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule or “knot”. Trigger points in your muscles can often be dull, but they can be extremely painful with little or no muscular activation.

During dry needling, a thin needle is inserted into the trigger point to stimulate it and cause it to relax. The pressure that is applied during the treatment will increase blood circulation, therefore increasing the flow of oxygen and nutrients to muscles that had been dormant, causing them to heal faster than they would normally heal. The needle causes a local twitch response in the muscle, which helps to break up the trigger point and improve blood flow, reducing pain and restoring proper muscle function.

Dry needling is considered a form of medical acupuncture, but it is distinct in that it is performed by physical therapists and is based on a different understanding of anatomy and physiology. Trigger-point dry needling is a widely used technique to treat pain and swelling in the muscles. It can be effective for treating many types of pain, including headaches, backaches, tennis elbow and knee problems.. We at Quantum Physiotherapy use this technique for variety of acute and chronic conditions as well.

We have more than thousand happy patients with muscle trigger points syndrome . We are one of best physiotherapy clinics in Bangalore who practice Dry needling which is a very new technique.
